    To defend Carrick Roads, Falmouth was where Pendennis Castle was built by Henry VIII. Blazoned as "An eagle displayed with heads and with a tower on each wing" (on the Killigrew arms), was the Falmouth seal. With the town and The Penryn River in the background, the Falmouth Lifeboat moored by the docks.

    Close to Pendennis Castle and Gyllyngvase beach, Falmouth Docks railway station is the terminus. Towards Falmouth and within easy walking distance of the top of The Moor, Penmere railway station opened on 1 July 1925. At the town site, Falmouth University has a campus, Woodlane, and another in Cornwall's Combined Universities campus at Penryn's Tremough, which with the Exeter University it shares.
